My first visit to Bloomington, back in January of 2013, was a cold one. I quickly found ways to warm up checking out eclectic shops and restaurants, while Ryan scoped out the campus. One of my first discoveries was A.Z. Vintage, and it's still one of my favorites. With the holidays coming up, I knew owner Allison Zook would have her shop decked. A.Z. Vintage began as a hobby for owner Allison Zook; scouring antique malls for treasures and collecting unique items. Zook says her gateway to mid-century modern collecting was the decorative arts from the era, specifically the dinnerware. Zook has always had an affinity for pottery and ceramics and adores the specific purpose each piece has on a mid-century table: the salad plate, soup plate, dinner plate, dessert plate, etc. Her personal collection of ceramics led to a love of mid century modern furniture as well. She quickly ran out of storage and began to sell some of her finds online, then as an antique mall vendor. In April of 2012, she took the plunge and opened her own storefront in downtown Bloomington.
Shopping should be fun and A.Z. Vintage is most certainly fun. Zook's keen editing eye and merchandising creates a warm and nostalgic shopping experience. A.Z.'s mix of inventory provides a little something for everyone: vintage men's and women's fashion, home accessories, furniture, and an assortment of locally made goods. I know when I walk through the door I'll be greeted with a big hello, rockin' tunes, and some fab finds.
Happy Holidays y'all! Don't forget to Shop Small!
