A visit to Athens for me means lots of eating, shopping, and seeing old friends. Last month I ventured to Athens for a wedding/grad school reunion and soaked up as much of the Classic City as possible. It's always hard to hit all of my favorites, but I sure try. Old favorites:
Everything at 5 & 10 is delicious... you cannot go wrong. I like to order a few appetizers to sample different flavors and save room for dessert. This trip my friend Katie and I were so hungry I forgot to take photos... shame on me.
Suska - Five Points
This thoughtfully curated consignment boutique is an excellent place to score some major deals on contemporary fashion.
Ted's Most Best - Downtown
To order... spinach and beet salad and perella pizza. Weather permitting, sit on the Patio for the people watching.
Agora - Downtown
This emporium is full of unique finds both vintage and handmade. I can always find something fun here.
The Royal Peasant - Five Points
To order... blue cheese crisps, the royale with cheese, and a beer.
Five Points Bottle Shop & Growler- Five Points
THE BEST package store.
The Last Resort Grill - Downtown
To order... anything. save room for cake.
Ideal Bagel - Broad St.
To order... a smoked fish bagel ( I like them all).
New spots for me:
Creature Comforts Brewing Co. - Downtown
Located in the old Snow Tire building, Creature Comforts has upped the anty on craft beer in Athens. So very different from Terrapin which I liked, $12 gets you a pint glass and 6 tastings or 3 full pours. The Berliner Weisse was my favorite of the three currently on tap - Light but flavorful and incredibly refreshing on a hot day.
Cinco y Diez - Five Points
I'd been following Chef Whitney Ottawka since she joined us at The Southern C Summit in Athens last fall. Her instagram feed will make you hungry regardless of time. Thanks to Lyric Lewin's photography, CYD's instagram feed does the same. Went for brunch on Saturday and ate myself silly. Read more about Cinco y Diez here.
Having been a fan of her colorful work for years, I was so happy to finally made it to Rebecca Wood's studio. With row after row of uniquely shaped and beautifully glazed pieces, make sure you give yourself enough time to browse.
My visit to Athens was the perfect way to end my Southern road trip. Can't wait until next time! My friends over at Guide 2 Athens had me do an instagram takeover of my weekend so be sure to check out their Guide 2 Athens instagram to see more of my trip.
