I have found my preservation people up here in the Midwest! I'm now involved with a new historic preservation organization - Preserve Greater Indy. The mission: to connect, engage, educate, and empower advocates of preservation throughout Central Indiana. Last week I met up with this group and craft beer enthusiasts at Indiana City Brewing to celebrate the beginnings of Preserve Greater Indy and its first campaign #BeerSavesPlaces. Throughout May we have been documenting and sharing craft breweries that occupy historic buildings around the state of Indiana. The beer community continues to grow in Indiana and its exciting and encouraging to see so many of the breweries occupying and preserving old buildings.
At our first event we enjoyed beer, perogies, and toured the young Indiana City Brewing. Their building is steeped in brewing history as it was originally the bottling house of The Home Brewing Company, 1880–1920. Ray Kamastra, the owner of Indiana City said he knew this building was the one because of all the history surrounding the property.
It was a great night for preservation and craft beer. If you're ever in Indy make sure you check out Indiana City Brewing! Want to see more from Preserve Indy? Check them out on social media! Do you know of a brewery located in a historic building? #BeerSavesPlaces continues through the end of the month so join the conversation!
